The Geopolitics of Cyberspace: Power, Diplomacy, and Security in the Digital Age

In an age where innovation and geopolitics are increasingly intertwined, understanding the forces shaping the digital world is no longer optional — it’s a competitive advantage. Startups, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads now operate across borders that aren’t physical but digital: data flows, cloud jurisdictions, cyber threats, and AI governance. This talk reveals how global cyber power struggles directly influence the technologies we build and use — from cloud platforms and payment systems to AI and blockchain. It shows how state policies, cyber diplomacy, and digital sovereignty shape the environment in which every startup and remote professional operates. By connecting geopolitics to everyday innovation, participants will learn how to: anticipate global tech risks before they disrupt their business, protect their digital assets in a fragmented internet, and identify emerging opportunities in new digital markets and alliances. This session brings a rare strategic lens — helping Portugal’s tech ecosystem think not just about how to innovate, but where and under which conditions innovation thrives.
